Ritwik Varma makes hand-built sculptures and wheelthrown pottery that he shows and sells internationally. He received a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of California Davis in 2022. During his final year, he enrolled in a beginner wheel throwing class at the UC Davis Craft Center, where he discovered a passion for clay that quickly grew into an obsessive studio practice. While conducting research in a research laboratory studying multiple sclerosis, he began teaching beginner wheel throwing at the UC Davis Craft Center.

He managed a ceramic studio for a local non-profit in Davis, CA and taught at community studios in and around Davis. He also taught ceramic courses in Dharamkot, India acting as program co-manager for their 5-week residential courses as part of his 5-month artist residency at Dharamkot Studio.

Teaching and making in community studios is an experience he draws significant inspiration from for his latest body of work about relationships with community, self and the external world. Currently he is gearing up for a ceramic residency at Craborchard Pottery in Tennessee, USA. His sculptural and functional work has been shown in exhibitions across the United States.
